TAKING ARCHITECTURE APART AND PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN - PRESENTED PAR FUTIL STUDIO / POFA
Sophie Boone + Nicolas Coeckelberghs + Nathalie Baaklini
15:25 → 16:00
Grande Scène gouvernement du Québec - 2e étage
Today, our approach to construction is undergoing a profound reevaluation that's more rigorous than at any other time in the past century. Featuring Sophie Boone (Rotor), Nicolas Coeckelberghs (BC architects & studies & materials) and Nathalie Baaklini (SOMA Group), this discussion delves into their respective approaches, offering an exciting perspective on contemporary architecture. Alternative architects seek to show new ways forward, advocating for innovative practices, including socially conscious strategies, circular construction methods, and efforts to drive systemic change within the industry. Their focus on principles such as bioregionalism, simplified technological solutions, and inclusivity exemplifies best practices aimed at cultivating a more sustainable and carefully considered built environment. Some even go as far as to suggest that we stop building anything new altogether. By questioning conventional preconceptions about architecture, this conversation offers to ignite a novel perspective on building practices--and inspires change in other fields.
